Description |
Lund University was founded in 1666 and for a number of years has been ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 41 000 students and 6 900 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition. The Faculty of Science conducts research and education within Biology, Astronomy, Physics, Geosciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is organized into ten departments, gathered in the northern campus area. The Faculty has approximately 1900 students, 330 PhD students and 700 employees.
The Centre for Environmental and Climate Research (CEC) was founded in 2010 to develop, coordinate and conduct interdisciplinary environmental and climate research and education. The research at CEC has its basis in the natural sciences, but is closely integrated with social sciences and engineering through interaction between strong research and educational environments at Lund University, and with the society via collaboration and exchange with public and private actors. The central research fields at CEC are: human impact on the climate, soil and landscape, including effects on biodiversity and ecosystem services; the consequences that human exploitation of natural resources have on the environment and the climate; and the spread, transformation and distribution of chemical hazards into the air, soil and water, as well as the resulting impact on humans, the climate and ecosystems. CEC is responsible for the two strategic research areas of BECC (Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing Climate) and MERGE (Modelling the Regional and Global Earth System), the research infrastructure ICOS Sweden (International Carbon Observation System – Sweden), the graduate school ClimBEco, and undergraduate, Master’s and PhD education in Environmental Science. For more information, please visit http://www.cec.lu.se/. Job description The employee is expected to form and lead his/her own group of researchers, and thereby actively contribute to the development of the overall research environment and teaching within the field of environmental science. He/she is to actively apply for external funding from national and international research councils and other funding bodies to at least partly cover the salaries and operational costs of the research group. The applicant is expected to develop interdisciplinary research collaborations in which science, engineering, humanities and social sciences scholars work together to create knowledge of and solutions to environmental issues. The research process is expected to include collaboration with stakeholders. The employee is also expected to contribute to the development of CEC’s activities by participating in various management functions. The employee is expected to be actively involved in teaching within first and second-cycle education in environmental science, and supervise both bachelor’s and master’s students in their degree projects, as well as doctoral students. Qualifications Qualified candidates shall demonstrate that they, from a starting point in science, can apply an interdisciplinary approach to assess anthropogenic changes in the environment, related to the central research areas at CEC.
Attention will be paid to how the applicant, through his or her experience and expertise, will complement and strengthen ongoing research, and contribute to its development. The applicant is expected to formulate a plan for how his or her own research can be integrated with existing and future activities at CEC. We expect non-Swedish speaking employees to acquire sufficient knowledge in Swedish within three years to be able to communicate with stakeholders and University bodies, and teach students within first and second-cycle education in this language. In accordance with Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance, the assessment criteria for appointment as a professor shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research or artistic expertise. The appointment will take into account the Lund University Appointment Rules. Among other things, these rules require that the applicant has completed at least 5 weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education, or acquired the equivalent knowledge in other ways. Exceptions from this rule can be made under special circumstances. The applicant’s personal ability to perform his/her duties well will also be considered in the overall assessment.
