The Professor [or Associate Professor] will join the team at the Pacific Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development [PACE] and be responsible for a wide range of duties focusing on teaching and conducting research on climate change within the scope of the Centre’s Project on Climate Change Adaptation funded by the EU.

Reporting to the Director PACE, the Professor [or Associate Professor] will demonstrate a distinguished personal contribution to Environmental Sciences/Climate Change at all levels and exercise a special responsibility in coordinating the teaching team in the implementation of all project activities.

The Centre has the main responsibility to co-ordinate USP's work on human resource development in environmental education and in climate change, and to link it with the work of other regional agencies and universities. The Centre has the following goals:

• To serve as a focal point for the integrated study of environment and sustainable development issues at USP.
• To co-ordinate, stimulate, catalyze and carry out environmental teaching, research and consultancy at USP.
• To help improve synergism inside and outside USP in dealing with environmental issues and promoting sustainable development.
• To promote science-policy interactions and project level involvement between governments and environmental networks and USP.
• To enhance indigenous knowledge systems and community based utilization of natural resources towards culturally sensitive and environment friendly sustainable pathways.
• To provide information to present and prospective students and the outside community about professional courses and careers in the areas of environment and sustainable development and to offer specialized consultancy services.

Qualifications: Applicants must have an accredited professional degree (PhD) in environmental sciences/climate change or related field from a recognised institution and extensive experience in research and teaching in a related field.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

• An excellent scholarly reputation in environmental science/climate change
• Experience in teaching in a multicultural region
• Excellent record of research, consultancy and publications
• Experience in managing a diverse team of professionals
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preference will be given to applicants who have relevant consultancy experience and posses experience with the African Caribbean Pacific [ACP] or Pacific Island Countries [PICs].

Contract Term: The position is initially available for a fixed term of 1 year with further renewals during the life of the Project [4years] subject to satisfactory performance.

Salary Range:

Professor: F$115,248 – F$124,592 per annum (Inclusive of 15% Gratuity).
Associate Professor: F$99,311 – F$111,726 per annum (Inclusive of 15% Gratuity).
In addition the University contributes 10% of base salary to an approved superannuation scheme, and provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
