Description

Overview

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Role Profile

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an intern to assist with the development of new online learning courses, in partnership with National Geographic Society, to produce a suite of standardised training courses for all levels of protected area management practitioners. The role will largely involve assisting in the technical development of online content – creating animated pdfs and powerpoints such as Prezi, using Adobe and other creative suites.  The successful candidate will also more widely support the Professionalising Conservation team, working closely with the Conservation eLearning Specialist and Project Manager to deliver online courses.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creating animations, graphics and other creative visuals for presentations and videos to be used in the online course materials
  • Sourcing online images and media to illustrate learning materials, and organising the licensing and permissions needed for use
  • Assisting the Conservation eLearning Specialist in the development of materials for online courses as needed – including learner assessments, building and testing materials on the Learning Management System
  • Generally assisting the Professionalising Conservation project team as needed

Person Specification

  • Demonstrate skills in digital and graphic design in order to develop online learning course materials – experience working with Adobe Creative suite is essential, plus experience with Camtasia, Prezi, and any other creative design software is a strong advantage
  • Ideally possess qualifications or undergraduate degree in visual communication, education, media production or similar
  • An interest in online learning, and experience developing online learning materials and a good working knowledge of online learning platforms would be a strong advantage
  • An understanding of copyright, licensing, and sources of potential assets in an online environment, e.g. Creative Commons would be a strong advantage
  • A passion for conservation, ecology or biological sciences
  • Good inter-personal skills, both in written and oral communication
  • Good administrative and organisation skills, with excellent attention to detail

Please note: The internship will be six months long, ideally starting in October 2018. The role is part time (maximum four days per week) and is based at ZSL’s Conservation Programmes department in Regent’s Park. Please note that this is a paid internship, set at the national minimum wage of £7.83 per hours.
