Product Manager—Energy Efficient Consumer Products
PECI is seeking a Product Manager that will be responsible for both PECI’s product planning and product lifecycle for lighting, appliances, consumer electronics and other energy efficient consumer focused products. This includes a thorough knowledge of PECI’s products technical and energy savings specifications, managing the product throughout the product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with engineering to bring forth products that create winning programs.
Key Accountabilities:
- Works with program implementation, business development and marketing to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met.
- Ensures that PECI’s product and marketing efforts support the company's overall strategy and goals.
- Estimates consumer demand for the product, identifying barriers and strategies for overcoming them; identifies potential customers, stays informed of any competing products on the market, develop pricing and delivery strategies.
- Responsible for increasing PECI’s profitability of delivering existing products, researching new products and bringing them to new and existing programs.
- Develop new ideas based on industry experience and contact with customers and prospects.
- Must possess a unique blend of business, customer and market savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality.
- Must spend time in the market to understand the problems and find innovative solutions for the broader market.
- Must be able to communicate with all areas of the company.
- Work with PECI’s engineering and program teams to define product energy savings potential and market requirements.
- Work with PECI’s program implementation teams to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer.
- Develop position papers for client delivery for the products you manage, responsible for keeping program teams up to date on products and markets and serve as the internal and external advocate for your product offering, working with the channel managers and key customers to ensure the success of your product line.
The Product Manager is expected to:
- Define the product strategy and roadmap
- Be the single point of information for the product line; technical, market and lifecycle
- Develop and implement a practice-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute
- Manage the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
- Function as the market expert with respect to the product
- Understand and provide the market insights regarding the product suite to inform current and future activity
- Influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
- Develop the core positioning and messaging for the product
- Brief and train program teams and business development on the product suite
- Specify market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers
- Conduct ongoing research to determine market trends for the product. Define end-user and stakeholder needs for the product. Continually communicate findings to channel and program management, recommending marketing activities to meet the needs of the product and programs
- Drive a solution set across teams (primarily Program implementation, Engineering, and Marketing Communications) through market, product and positioning requirements
- Work with engineering to develop pilot programs with early-stage products and samples
- Analyze potential partner relationships for the product
- Track applicable codes, standards, and credits as they apply to the product line
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree at minimum
- Minimum of 5 years working across functions in an organization in order to achieve business results
- Strong technical background in energy efficient lighting, appliances and consumer electronics
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Utility industry experience preferred
- Client relationship skills preferred
- Consumer retail experience a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
