Business Context of the Role:
Amec’s environmental business in the UK has recently been integrated bringing together its recent acquisition of Entec with existing UK Amec staff. A new management team role has been created in the combined business to lead the Environmental Policy, Energy and Sustainability ( EPES ) Product Group.

Objectives of the Role:
• Collective responsibility with the management team to set and implement the overall business strategy.
• Full budget and P&L responsibility for the range of products and services delivered through EPES. Achieve greater than 10% organic growth year on year from a base of £14m turnover maintaining gross fee margin in excess of 60%.
• Lead, develop, grow and deploy a team of mixed discipline environmental professionals, working in a fully integrated manner with the rest of the business delivering a minimum fee earning utilisation of 65%.
• Invest in the development of new services responding to customers’ emerging needs generating incremental new income ( targets to be developed ).

Key Accountabilities:
• Amec Earth and Environmental ( UK ) Ltd overall performance ( collective )
• Fee income growth and margin in line with EPES budget and plan
• Working capital (WIP /Debt ) management for EPES within Budget target.
• Development of new services and skills in line with EPES plan.
• Working effectively with other Product Group and Sector Group Directors
• EPES team use of time, investment in Training and Development, headcount growth and staff turnover.

The range of services available through EPES spans policy development, through
performance improvement to least cost compliance. Customers include EC, UK
Government, energy generation and distribution, major oil and gas companies, chemicals
companies ,Water companies and MoD.
 

Person Specification:
Overview 
Reporting to the Managing Director, this role requires excellent people skills, a strong track record in managing client relations and business management skills to take responsibility for the overall growth and safe delivery of Entec’s business in EPES.  You will lead and inspire a large and highly motivated group of staff in EPES, and will have the opportunity to act as a role model to everyone throughout the business given the management team status of the role. You will therefore have the opportunity to adopt, develop and adapt, select, build and deploy a team dedicated to the delivery of your strategy for EPES in the context of the agreed overall business strategy .You will work with Product and Sector Group Directors and members of the wider Sector Development team, guiding, influencing and partnering with them to penetrate potential growth in our chosen markets in line with Amec E&E ( UK ) Ltd. overall strategy.  Strong influencing and communication skills are therefore essential.

 The successful candidate will have a proven track record in a role with similar responsibilities in the UK with a relevant competitor, will have built up effective relationships with relevant clients through account management and will have a clear understanding of the range of services which Entec and EPES promotes to its customers and future customers. This will include a keen knowledge of emerging environmental issues including climate change and carbon management, sustainable development/corporate responsibility, benchmarking , risk management, emissions trading etc.

First Degree 
MSc /Environmental Science/Chemical or Process Engineering/other relevant degree.

Second Degree 
MBA Optional, but some form of business training preferred. Experience of management within a corporate environment is essential and the ability to operate at Board level highly desirable.

Experience 
It is essential that you have a clear understanding of the challenges of managing a group of Environmental consultants and you will have played a senior role within a relevant competitor of Amec E&E. You must be able to demonstrate a sharp understanding of project financial management and working capital management and be competent in utilising management information systems. Forecasting, workflow management and staff management are all key competencies for the role as is the ability to build and lead a Product group management team to act under delegated authority. Keen commercial skills and a strong track record in consultancy selling is essential. You will have sound, mature judgment, always act fairly and be able to tackle difficult issues head on and achieve successful outcomes.
