Job Description:
The Private Lands Wildlife Biologist Program (PLWB) is a partnership between the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW), and the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory (RMBO) is a result of a consensus that private land species and habitat conservation efforts in Colorado need to be strengthened. The program is a joint agreement that places four wildlife biologists into NRCS offices around Colorado. The program provides technical resources to landowners and other land managers to more fully incorporate wildlife management into their conservation efforts. By integrating the CDOW and RMBO expertise with the NRCS resources the PLWB Program brings the best of all organizations to assist Colorado’s landowners. One position is currently vacant in Durango. • Provide technical assistance and program support to NRCS on habitat conservation programs (e.g. WHIP, EQIP, CRP etc...) • Provide support for incorporating fish and wildlife habitat considerations into landowner conservation plans. • Provide training, workshops, seminars, and field exercises with groups and individuals. • Identify and develop products for information and outreach programs. • Develop and sustain cooperative working relationships with landowners, conservation groups and other resource professionals. • Develop technical proficiency in conservation planning, wetlands delineation and Pro Tracts, Tool Kit, and PRS • Assist the CDOW and NRCS State Biologist in conducting biological assessments. • Assist with wetland delineation, and environmental compliance. • Enroll private lands into conservation programs using Farm Bill and other program dollars Salary: Mid-40’s, with benefits

Job Requirements:
• Must have at least a Bachelors degree in a conservation related field preferably Wildlife Management/Biology, Conservation Biology or Range Management with one to three years of experience. • Experience and knowledge of Farm Bill Programs is highly desirable • Ability and desire to work with a diverse group of people including state, federal and non-government resource professionals, agricultural producers and the general public. • Must be a Self-starter who can work independently, is organized and enthusiastic, outgoing, with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. • Strong working knowledge of the flora and fauna of western Colorado including sage-steppe (e.g. Sage Grouse) and riparian and wetlands communities are strongly desirable • Professional attitude and image required. • Willingness and ability to travel on a regular basis, year round, and work in remote locations, often alone and in inclement weather or adverse conditions. • Ability to traverse various terrains on foot. • Must be willing and able to perform administrative work in a controlled environment/office setting for an eight-hour workday. • Must possess exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Access and GIS mapping software.
