Summary of Department
The Human Settlements Group (HSG) works to reduce poverty and to improve the health and housing conditions in urban centres of Latin America, Asia and Africa. It aims to combine this with promoting good governance and more ecologically sustainable patterns of urban development and urban-rural linkages. HSG’s activities strand policy research, evaluation, policy and technical assistance, publications, seminars and training. These are undertaken in partnership with academic institutions and NGOs around the world.
Summary of Role
The postholder will develop and lead a programme of research, policy outreach and associated activities that contribute to the overall strategy of IIED and of the Human Settlements Group. They will manage research, dissemination and advocacy work in collaboration with partners in Africa, Latin America and Asia and with colleagues in IIED; and produce a variety of research outputs ensuring effective promotion and dissemination. The postholder will also contribute to the strategic orientations of the Group’s work and overall management.
To succeed in this role you must have extensive research experience in urban issues demonstrated by a substantial track record of innovative and influential work and publications. As well as a postgraduate qualification in a relevant social science discipline you will have extensive relevant professional experience in countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America. You must be well networked with experience of engaging with and advising a wide variety of international stakeholders working on human settlements and have a sustained track record in securing funding from a variety of donors.
