Principal Oceanographer

Gardline Environmental Limited (GEL), part of the worldwide Gardline Marine Sciences Group of companies, is seeking to recruit an experienced Oceanographer to process and report on metocean field data.

The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of field techniques used for recording waves and currents along with other meteorological and oceanographic data. Exceptional quality control and processing skills is also a requirement to maintain Gardline’s world class metocean reporting standard.

Candidates must have significant experience in Oceanography, hold a first degree or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant science and will be highly numerate with programming skills, ideally in Matlab. An MSc or PhD would be advantageous. In addition candidates must be highly computer literate in MS Office with the capability to master new software packages. Knowledge of all types of forecasting and modelling would be beneficial.

As this position involves authoring and presentation of technical reports directly to clients, the successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable and confident in their abilities.

The position requires working with people across the company and at all levels. A function of the post will be to support and mentor the other Oceanographic team members while also contributing towards technical reports and tender documents as required and representing the Group at an international level.

Reporting to the Metocean Business Manager, the post holder will be responsible for data delivery of Gardline’s metocean projects worldwide, and presents opportunities to further develop the division’s capabilities in modelling and online data delivery systems.
