CEH is the UK’s Centre of Excellence for integrated research in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere. Our mission is to undertake world-class research that underpins evidence-based decisions and innovation by policy-makers and businesses, and engages with people, to support sustainable development and improve society’s environmental legacy. Well-established as a world-leading centre for hydrological research, CEH has built its reputation over many years’ observing and investigating relationships between natural water resources and their dependent ecosystems, and through developing innovative tools and methods for predicting the occurrence and impacts of floods and droughts. We are offering an exciting opportunity for a senior hydrologist to make their mark by identifying, developing and leading new applied research in flood and water resources management, with a particular focus on overseas markets. Working closely with the CEH Directors, Science Leaders and the Business Development Team you will develop, manage and mentor a small team of hydrologists to deliver to this strategic area. You will be expected to contribute to overseas business development and be responsible for maximising the return to CEH from potential markets. You will have significant experience of successfully bidding for, leading and delivering overseas water resources and/or flood management research projects, some of which will have involved multi-national, multi-disciplinary teams. Experience of working in India, China or sub-Saharan Africa is desirable, as is a good working knowledge of overseas funding agencies (e.g. EU, DFID, World Bank, Asian Development Bank). You will have established an extensive network of collaborators and contacts across academia, environmental and engineering consultancies (UK and internationally) and assumed prominent positions in several international hydrological initiatives or programmes (e.g. for UN agencies). Extended periods working overseas will be required. Skills and qualifications required on appointment
