We are looking for someone who is a natural leader of small teams.  The successful candidate will be able to articulate the causes and future solutions associated with the biodiversity crisis affecting the UK and be able to effectively communicate key messages to clients and stakeholders alike.  Working with a wide range of sectoral clients, large and small public sector agencies and authorities, as well as developers and landowners, the role offers a brilliant opportunity to increase responsibility for protecting and enhancing biodiversity whilst shaping our team and promoting Lepus key values of trust, learning, innovation, passion for the environment, hard work, enjoyment and good health.

This post is a full time position and we offer a variety of hybrid working arrangements to suit your needs.  You should feel comfortable demonstrating a willing versatility for new projects and show diligence and independence when working on projects.  An outgoing, likeable and professional personality is desirable as is the ability to work with a small, friendly team.

Broad knowledge of the UK’s biodiversity planning, protection and management systems is essential as are excellent report writing skills.  You will be part of the senior management team and contribute to business planning and development.

Responsibilities and job profile

  • Consultancy expertise: Support the principal consultant team with the environmental assessment of plans and programs. Maintain a strong awareness of how the latest changes to legislation have an impact on client projects.  Ideally, demonstrate knowledge of the UK town and country planning system, ecosystem services, biodiversity net gain, habitat banks, the biodiversity hierarchy, Habitats Regulations Assessment process, plan-making processes and planning appeals.
  • Report writing: Write clearly written and easy to follow reports. Interpret data and format it into high quality, comprehensive reports, written in a manner that is robust yet can still be understood by non-technical people.
  • Team work: Lead the biodiversity team and support the wider consultant team.
Have the ability to work as part of a team and the capacity to work independently.
Ideally, be able to show experience of working in a consultancy environment and working as part of a small team.
  • Qualifications: Masters degree in a related discipline and relevant professional membership of organisations such as CIEEM, IEMA or the RTPI.
  • Data analysis: Be able to analyse geographic datasets for a range of technical disciplines including, for example, biodiversity, flood risk, transportation and socio-economic factors.  Experience or training in GIS is desirable.
