The client requires a Principal Energy Consultant to project manage and provide technical inputs to a range of energy management projects and to undertake targeted business development activities to support the acquisition of new work. The focus for project work and business development will be the reduction of energy consumption in large industrial and large commercial building developments. It may also include renewable energy and carbon management.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Manage projects and ensure delivery to client on time and within agreed budget
2. Manage and work with other staff and collaborating companies/sub-consultants to ensure progress
of projects and timely delivery of agreed outputs
3. Provide technical support to a range of projects across the areas of focus set out below
4. Work with business development teams in the UK & USA to identify new project opportunities from
ongoing work
5. Prepare and support the preparation of proposals for new projects
6. Provide progress reports and updates to relevant Project Managers, the Operations Manager
(project delivery) and Business Development Managers (project proposals)
7. Such other duties of a similar nature as may be required from time to time
Areas of focus:
1. Engage New Industrial & Large Commercial Clients
• Complete energy & water reduction scoping audits
• Formulate ongoing energy management support programmes
• Engineer practical solutions to industrial problems and opportunities
• Scale opportunities across multi site location
• Prepare proposals and contract for new business
2. Support and Manage ongoing Energy & Water Reduction Programmes
• Provide onsite technical guidance across all aspects of energy/water consumption
o Formulate energy reduction implementation plans
3. Implement or improve a utility Monitoring & Targeting system
• Specify new or replacement sub meters
• Specify and integrate data collection systems
• Implement management and low level energy reporting
• Communicate benefits and drive change
4. Project Manage and deliver the following technical surveys
• Compressed Air Surveys
• Boiler House & Steam Systems
• Refrigeration
• Process Plant
• Heat Recovery Systems
• CHP
Development:
1. Strive to continually improve and progress current skills & knowledge within the industry, in order to
remain up-to-date with market progress and new technology
2. Show a willingness to progress & further understanding of the Energy & Climate Change industry
3. Show a willingness to develop skills & experience in order to move onto a wider field of project
activity and in time to move on to higher staff grades
Performance Expectations:
The objectives for the post will be to achieve the following work profile:
• Project work 77% of time
• Business Development 15% of time (to achieve new projects worth at least £80k per
year)
• Overhead 6% of time
• Training & Development 2% of time
• Value of Projects Managed £150k per year
Suitable individuals must be able to identify and develop potential Business Development opportunities with a proven ability to write clear and concise proposals that correctly interpret clients requirements. You will need to be a team player with either Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (1st Class or 2:1) or Science Degree / HND Mechanical Engineering plus a Masters in Energy Management. Gained over a number of years you will have a sound understanding of energy and water systems in large industrial facilities and a good working knowledge of at least three of the following: • Steam Systems • Industrial Boilers • CHP • Heat Recovery • Water & Effluent Treatment Processes • Compressed Air • Motors & Drives • Lighting Systems • Refrigeration • HVAC
Candidates with knowledge of any of the following will be of particular interest: • Utility Metering & Sub  metering • Data Collection Protocols • AutoCAD & MathCAD • Visual Basic, SQL • Energy M&T • CCL, ISO14001 or IPPC • Carbon Management • Project finance and funding
You must be able and willing to travel to other UK offices as and when required for meetings or seminars along with visiting and working at client premises across the UK & possibly USA.
