This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growing area, with a strong focus on low emissions energy themes such as biomass, energy from waste, CHP and district heating, and carbon and other pollutant emissions reduction. Your input to a variety of project types could include feasibility study work, conceptual and strategic design, project management, preparing technical specifications, technical and commercial appraisal of large project bid submissions, due diligence, commissioning, performance testing and ad hoc provision of technical and commercial advice to your clients. Your clients will come from a diverse range of businesses including, private developer companies (e.g. energy and property developments), utilities (e.g. power, water, waste management), industrial process operations and financial organisations. Experience in development and/or design, and/or operation and maintenance of thermal plant using a variety of fuels such as biomass, biogas, energy from waste and fossil fuels is desirable. A good knowledge of the principles of CHP will be well regarded. Detailed technical understanding and experience should form a solid basis for your work, and should be coupled with an understanding of economic, commercial and regulatory issues and drivers that are important for thermal plant. At a minimum you should have some demonstrable experience in one of the following technologies: combustion; gasification; pyrolysis; anaerobic digestion; flue gas treatment systems; steam generation/transmission/utilisation e.g. steam turbines and CHP; and gas engines/turbines. You will also have excellent communication skills and an ability to identify and focus on clients' needs in the delivery of your work.
Essential background
- A first Degree such as Mechanical, Process or Chemical  and a ideally a post graduate degree
- Past involvement in the development, design or operation and maintenance of thermal power or large scale thermal energy projects preferred. Technical knowledge of application of fuel-conversion technologies and associated technologies is desirable. A good knowledge of policy drivers and commercial issues of energy trading and supply would be useful. Understanding of consultancy role is an advantage.
- Typically someone would need around 7-8 years' relevant experience to have developed the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake this role successfully.
- A full UK driving licence is necessary.
