The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) brings together Victoria’s planning, local government, environment, energy, suburban development, forests, emergency management, climate change and water functions into a single department to strengthen connections between the environment, community, industry and economy. It is tasked with ensuring that Victoria has the right conditions to enable economic growth, while delivering liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities.

The Climate Change Division provides high quality policy advice to government on directions, principles, strategies and actions to protect the environment, drive waste and resource recovery and provide leadership on climate change, recognising that a healthy environment is critical to growing Victoria’s economy and improving liveability for all Victorians

Reporting to the Director, Climate Change Policy, the Principal Climate Change Policy Advisor will identify emerging issues and opportunities, contributing to the setting of strategy and effective resource allocation and assess the implications of work and its impact on departmental and/or government policy. The Principal Climate Change Policy Advisor will deputise for and represent the Director at high level meeting and engagements, and contribute to the building of capability in policy across the Division through effective coaching, guidance and mentoring.

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience as a senior technical specialist with a proven record in providing high level advice on complex climate change policy issues.  With a strong understanding of governance and compliance, particularly on how they relate to the processes and levers that apply to government, you will be able to communicate the essentials of Climate Change issues to a range of key stakeholders through effective networking and cross-collaboration.
