The Route to Zero (R20) team will be the Council’s key focal point for enabling action in its ambition to reach net zero carbon by 2030 or as soon thereafter as a just transition allows. A brand-new team fully endorsed by Council leaders; this is a unique opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the 2020s is the decade of delivery of emissions reduction at scale. With a wide range of roles to be secured in this critical new team, we’re seeking individuals passionate about climate change and sustainability who bring new skills from other sectors, as well as practitioners with comprehensive technical and professional experience.

Working across all City Council departments, fostering existing external relations and facilitating new public-private sector partnerships to build investment and delivery capacity; collaboration and co-creation will sit at the heart of the R20 approach. The R20 team will inspire, drive and secure exciting new opportunities that will lead to the significant scale of growth in energy efficiency, decarbonisation and behaviour change required to achieve 2030 ambitions.

The Principal Behavioural Change and Engagement Officer will play a lead role in developing, coordinating, and delivering the Route to Zero (R20) communications and engagement plan. Their scope will include internal and external engagement activities using a wide range of print and digital channels and communication techniques. They will plan and prepare eye-catching and engaging content to inform, excite and influence individuals and organisations to change behaviour and take positive action.
