Major products are aluminium, copper, diamonds, energy (coal and uranium), gold, industrial minerals (borax, titanium dioxide, salt, talc) and iron ore.
An excellent opportunity exists for a Principal Advisor - Energy & Climate Strategy.  Reporting to the Head of Strategic Climate Change Projects you will work as part of the global Energy and Climate Change team based in London, which operates under the direction of the Managing Director - Energy and Climate Strategy. 
The role will have a particular emphasis on the work being carried out to develop opportunities arising from engagement with investments related to carbon emissions mitigation. The Principal Advisor - Energy & Climate Strategy is responsible for:
  • Developing high quality analysis and positioning around climate change related issues and their effects on the business.  This will have a direct impact on the internal understanding of issues surrounding energy and climate, and inform shaping of external perceptions and policies.
  • Working with all parts of the business to deepen the understanding across the Group of the risks and opportunities posed by existing and emerging policies and regulation in the area or carbon emissions and climate change, in order to enable more effective management of the business into the long term.
  • Identifying and supporting the development of new business opportunities that arise from implementation of climate change related policies and regulation.  It is expected that include examining opportunities for forestry and land management. 
  • Working with a range of external parties on climate change policy and the opportunities it presents.
  • Helping to integrate approaches to dealing with climate change related issues with the Group's financial, safety, community, biodiversity and other policies and processes.

 

The requirements:
  • You will be able to demonstrate a successful track record within a general business environment that requires strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • You will have a genuine interest in, and knowledge of, climate change policy.
  • Good knowledge of energy markets, especially the Power/Energy sector, would be advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required as well as high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.                                      
  • Self motivated, it is imperative that you are highly organised and able to prioritise your workload.
  • Strong IT skills are a must including MS Office applications; particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
