As Corporate Accountability International’s Press Officer, you will join the organization’s media team and play a key role in heightening media attention on our campaigns. Working with our talented media and communications staff, you will help shift the public climate around water privatization, and tobacco, fossil fuel, and fast food abuses globally, protecting people’s lives across the world. You will develop relationships with local, regional, national, and international media outlets; write and edit media materials; project manage media plans; and maintain all media administrative systems. You will work closely with our campaigns staff, in addition to people across the organization, reporting directly to the Media Director while also working closely with organizational leadership, including the Deputy Director: Communications and Foundations. 

Major Responsibilities:

Inform, develop, and execute media plans, working closely with the organization’s campaign and research teams.
Assist in the development and evaluation of Corporate Accountability International’s overall media strategy and media outreach tools.
Maintain administrative systems, including files, records, and systems, including a comprehensive reporter database. Monitor, analyze, and track earned media and news developments relevant to our mission. 
Media outreach: Regularly plan and pitch media events and stories. Personally build and maintain relationships with key journalists.
Draft, edit, and proof pitch memos, advisories, press releases, and other written materials.
Assist in training of spokespeople and media activists nationwide.
Participate in organization-wide activities: Enthusiastically and effectively participate in planning, fundraising, recruitment, and campaign activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and progressive social change. 
  • At least two years of full-time experience in grassroots organizing or non-profit communications. Experience in fundraising a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills—enthusiasm for talking on the phone and writing.
  • Experience and talent as a copy writer and editor. Meticulous proofreading skills a plus. 
  • Strong administrative and project management skills. You enjoy getting the details right!
  • Working knowledge of most popular social media platforms with competency in using each to engage media and the public.
