ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
DUTIES:
1. Engage landowners and volunteers in conservation efforts at prioritized conservation sites in central and southeastern MN including monitoring and stewardship activities.
2. Operate and maintain various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner including: lawn mower, chainsaw, tractor, skid steer / attachments, two-way radio, maintenance tools, power tools, and construction tools large trucks with trailers
3. Maintain a clean and organized work shop and work area.
4. Work closely with other TNC staff to plan and conduct prescribed burns in all regions of MN.
5. Ability to work with Military staff and on military training sites.
6. Assist with the identification of potential funding sources and assist in soliciting funds for program activities.
7. Lead field trips, volunteer stewardship workdays and coordinate AmeriCorps volunteer crew work
8. Work with neighboring landowners to build partnerships
9. Monitor grazing lease activity and report to supervisor.  
10. Control invasive weeds and woody vegetation by mechanical and chemical means.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems.  Ability to recognize plant and animal
species as required to complete preserve management activities. Familiarity with flora, fauna, geology and resource management issues of central MN or Midwest.
• Two years of experience preferred working with or around livestock, and experience working with grazing practices and fencing systems.
• Qualified or willing to obtain qualifications as a Single Resource Boss (ENGB, FIRB or CRWB).
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Current certification or the ability to obtain first aid, CPR, herbicide applicator’s license and a commercial driver’s license. Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Knowledge of ecological land management principles preferred.
• Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation preferred.
• Ability and commitment to build partnerships, work with landowners and as a team member in decision making.
• Ability to manage time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including landowners, agency partners, trustees, donors and students via written, spoken, and graphic means.
• PC familiarity, including database knowledge, GIS and statistical analysis, in order to monitor conservation projects and maintain preserve records.
