Description

19/08/14 - 22/08/14

This is a practical course for making permanent microscope slides of common insects using mainly resin mounting media. The slides will be suitable for viewing with a stereo-microscope or low power objectives on a compound.

During the course, students will use a variety of techniques and stains to produce slides of whole mounts and parts of adult and larval insects, crustacea and other arthropods, using preserved material.

Some specimens will tax the manipulative skill of experienced course members but as the work is graduated, beginners will find their needs catered for too.

We expect to provide a video link with a camera on the tutor's microscope to enable students to clearly see all the stages in the processes.
