To perform engineering analysis and research on static and dynamic analysis of wide-area interconnected power grids using synchrophasor measurements and applications using Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) including use of supervisory control and the concept known as Wide Area Monitoring, Protection, and Control (WAMPAC). This will include power flow analysis and use of dynamic analysis tools to improve power system situational awareness. This position will work closely with staff and senior level engineers to build and validate power flow and dynamic models of the transmission and generation system and to use advanced analysis methods to improve functionality of state estimator/network applications. Contribute to technical review for utility reliability studies and synchrophasor technology applications to power grid operation with an emphasis on high renewable energy scenarios and impact analysis including the use of automated computer applications and advanced analysis methods to improve situational awareness of power grid. A broad understanding of utility operational practices and their current use of PMU data for situational awareness is a plus.
Perform power systems analysis for reliability studies and dynamic models of the transmission and generation system that facilitate better use of the existing grid and development of situational awareness of the power grid with an emphasis on high renewable energy penetrations. Analysis needs to provide value to Regional Reliability Organizations, Regional Transmission Organizations, and Independent Systems Operators or other utility-related entities. This person should be fluent with static and dynamic analysis of wide-area interconnected power grids using synchrophasor measurements and be able to run load flow models and use automated computer applications and advanced analysis methods to improve power system situational awareness and state estimation. Contribute to outreach to utilities and other decision makers on reliability issues for renewable energy impacts on bulk power generation and transmission operation. Contribute to presentations at workshops and conferences on utility integration of renewable energy, and publication of technical reports on results in technical journals/conference proceedings. Participate in development of base funded research tasks and competitive award proposals. Basic project management skills are required.
Relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Demonstrates broad understanding and wide application of engineering technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.

Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
Base knowledge of bulk power system and synchrophasor measurements and applications using Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) including use of supervisory control and the concept known as Wide Area Monitoring, Protection, and Control (WAMPAC).

Work in a highly motivated team environment, good interpersonal and communication skills. Contribute to development and execution of research projects aimed at facilitating integration of wind and solar power in bulk power grids.
