Power System support engineer (Location: Belfast)

Gaelectric, a privately held group established in 2004, is a leading developer and operator of renewable energy and energy storage projects in Ireland, the United Kingdom and North America with offices in Dublin, Belfast and Chicago.

Our Technical Team is responsible for all Renewable Energy technical aspects being undertaken by Gaelectric. Key activities include wind farm design, feasibility studies, land acquisition, site selection/evaluation, due diligence and grid feasibility studies. The Planning Team deals with all aspects of the planning process, as well as having responsibility for the preparation of wind farm planning applications, implementation of associated environmental impact studies/ecology surveys, public consultations and dealing with public / regulatory bodies.
We are seeking to grow our team through the addition of an experienced, solutions focussed, electrical grid / engineering specialist with a track record in energy supply and proven ability in working with NIE/SONI and ESB/Eirgrid grid codes and/or power system electrical principles.

The Individual Profile

  • Third level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience of working with NIE/SONI and ESB/Eirgrid grid codes a distinct advantage
  • Experience working in an Engineering, Manufacturing or Maintenance environment, ideally interfacing with the Utilities, System Operators and Regulators
  • Proven track record in energy supply and / or power system electrical principles
  • Good theoretical knowledge of electrical components and understanding of connecting generators to the grid infrastructure
  • Understanding of the principles surrounding the renewable industry and the costs involved with connecting to the grid infrastructure
  • Project Management knowledge and skills as well as experience regarding project management and realisation of electrical infrastructure advantageous
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to work independently towards challenging targets
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet pressure deadlines
  • Strong communicative and interpersonal skills; with the ability to report in a precise manor to the management
  • Excellent team player, goal-orientated, dynamic and entrepreneurial in nature, with the skill to motivate others successfully
  • Travel will be required to all Gaelectric wind farm sites in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland (a full clean driving license)
