SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Power Electronics Engineer will report to the Director, Development and be responsible for power electronics development in an R&D environment. Responsibility will include taking over development of experimental power electronics converters for DC/DC and DC/AC topologies for both power supplies and converters operating less than 1000 Watts. Modeling, building and testing experimental converters will be expected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Modeling converter operation in support of development activities.
  • Provide input for selection of conversion topologies for various projects and requirements.
  • Be capable of prototype design for testing and verification of the modeled converters.
  • Work with hardware and firmware team members in debug and testing.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8 years of experience doing power electronics design
  • MS electrical engineering

WORKING CONDITIONS

 Ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines.

The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting and in a testing environment in an electronics lab.
