NIWA is New Zealand's leading provider of natural resources and environmental research and applied science services, specialising in atmospheric, climate, freshwater and marine research, with more than 600 staff in 15 sites around New Zealand. You will be part of a team of dedicated Maori researchers in NIWA's National Centre for Maori Environmental Research (Te Kuwaha) with a vision to work in partnership with others to enable complementary knowledge systems to support kaitiakitanga and provide environmental research excellence that enhances the social, environmental and economic aspirations of whanau, hapu and iwi, Maori communities and Maori businesses. You will also be part of the leadership team of NIWA's Oceans Platform.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced marine science research leader to drive the strategic development and advancement of Maori Marine Research at NIWA. As a senior member of Te Kuwaha you will work closely with NIWA's Marine Science Platform strategy and management team to develop and coordinate the implementation of Maori research strategies within the Platform, growing a multidisciplinary portfolio of Maori research projects and initiatives that facilitates the weaving together of matauranga Maori and science for the benefit of whanau, hapu, iwi, Maori communities and enterprises.

We are seeking a big-picture thinker who can influence the science system but is equally comfortable engaging with Maori communities and other key stakeholders to deliver science impact at a grassroots level. Demonstrated experience working at the interface between science and Te Ao Maori to meet the research priorities and aspirations of whanau, hapu, iwi, Maori communities and enterprises is a must. Relevant tertiary qualifications (MSc or PhD) and an in-depth knowledge and understanding of tikanga and Te Reo Maori are highly desirable.

If you are looking for your next challenge to take your career to another level, please apply.
