Job/Research Summary The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL's Chemical and Materials Science Center has an immediate opening for a full time Postdoctoral Researcher. This assignment is for one year with possible renewal for up to three years.
Job Duties Conduct novel studies directed at developing a basic understanding of the structure/property and charge transfer relationships for organic radical containing polymers. The work involves an in-depth analytical study of the relationship between structure and charge transfer dynamics. The successful candidate will be creative with a broad set of interests and excellent laboratory skills. He or she will document research progress and work in a team setting with senior staff to publish and present the findings in peer-reviewed journals and at national scientific meetings. Duties also include attention to environmental safety and health issues.
Required Education and Experience Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Additional Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Doctorate degree in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or other closely related fields and expertise in advanced electrochemical techniques, analysis of, radical systems, batteries, and advanced experimental design. Strong scientific writing skills demonstrated by experience in writing quality scientific papers. Good oral communications skills in English and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Environmental, Health and Safety team, to follow safe work procedures, to handle waste properly, and to keep a clean, and well-organized work environment.
Preferred Qualifications PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field. Experience with time-resolved spectroscopic techniques, photoluminescence (PL), along with modified electrogenerated luminescence (ECL)are also desired. Candidates should be versatile, creative, able to master new fields and comfortable with a lack of precedent. Ability to work well both in a team and independently with limited supervision is critical
