The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL’s Biosciences Center has immediate opening for one full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to study regulation of carbon metabolism in the bacterium Cupriavidas necator for production of hydrocarbon fuels. The assignment is for one year with possible renewal for a maximum of three years. The research is funded by ARPA-E, and will be performed in a multi-disciplinary team approach in collaboration with an industrial partner. The position requires a recent (within 3 years) Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. Experience in genetic engineering and carbon metabolite characterization, and excellent oral/writing communication skills are required.
Generate and characterize Cupriavidas necator mutants affecting carbon and cofactors metabolism; design and perform experiments; interpret data; contribute to writing reports and manuscripts; present at group meetings and conferences.
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Knowledge of carbon metabolism, growth and transformation of bacteria, DNA cloning, amplification by polymerase chain reaction, protein purification, western blot, enzyme assays, HPLC and GC-MS. Team player.
Experience in metabolic engineering.
