The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. A full time Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in NREL's Chemical & Materials Science Center. The assignment is for one year with possible renewal for up to three years.
The candidate will work with a strong experimental research group conducting studies in the area of manufacturing R&D for fuel cells. The group is engaged in research projects that include development and validation of in-line inspection and diagnostic techniques for fuel cell MEA/cell manufacturing as well as in situ cell testing to explore and understand the effects that manufacturing variability and defects have on cell performance and lifetime.
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years. PhD in chemical engineering, electrochemistry, mechanical engineering, material science, physics or related field. Experience in one or both (preferred) of the following areas is required: (a) development of rapid, non-destructive inspection and measurement techniques applicable to thin film or sheet materials, ideally, experience with materials relevant to fuel cell MEAs, and/or (b) in situ testing and characterization of MEAs including, ideally, accelerated aging and/or segmented cell testing. Record of publications/presentations in these areas is desired.
