| Job/Research Summary |
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The National Center for Photovoltaics, Process Technology and Advanced Concepts group, is seeking a full time postdoctoral candidate to perform creative scientific research on the development and characterization of organic solar cells and modules as part of an ongoing CRADA. This will involve the development of large area modules based on new active layer materials and solution processed contacts. The assignment is for one year with possible renewal for up to a maximum three years. |
| Job Duties |
The researcher will contribute to the development, characterization, and scale-up of new architectures and materials for organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices as part of an industry collaboration. The candidate will utilize new and existing donor and acceptor materials to effectively evaluate their performance in organic solar cells and modules. He/she will also assist in evaluating new electron or hole contact layer materials as well as alternative electrode materials in OPV devices. These studies will require both the development of novel experimental techniques as well as the use of existing optical, structural, and electrical characterization tools. Extensive interactions with industrial collaborators is required, and the applicant must be amenable to working in a large and diverse research team. The candidate will need a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality scientific work with strong scientific writing and presentation skills so as to present at national and international conferences and publish the work in peer-reviewed journals. As such, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a necessity. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a willingness and enthusiasm for learning new subjects, excellent collaborative skills, creativity, and an interest toward commercialization. |

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years. |
| Additional Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes |
Ph.D. in materials science, physics, chemistry, or other relevant discipline. Relevant education and experience consistent with duties. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in organic photovoltaic device fabrication and/or characterization. |
