The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy’s effort to secure an energy future that is both environmentally and economically sustainable. With locations in Golden, Boulder and Washington D.C., NREL is the primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy technologies in the United States. The NREL mission is to develop renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and practices, advance related science and engineering, and transfer knowledge and innovation to address the nation’s energy and environmental goals.
A postdoctoral position is available in the CdTe group of NREL’s National Center for Photovoltaics to develop flexible CdTe solar cells.
The position will focus on the fabrication of high efficiency flexible CdTe solar cells on thin glass. The candidate will support a large group effort with multiple industrial partners working to understand the materials science of flexible CdTe solar cells, the effects of stress and strain on device performance, and the science of scaling up high efficiency cells to pilot-scale module production.
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of success in addressing applied materials science in multi-layer thin film stacks. Given the multidisciplinary nature of this assignment, candidates should be capable of self-direction and carrying out distinct projects in parallel. Attractive candidates for this position should have a strong background in vacuum deposition, sputter deposition, device processing, material and device characterization, stress and strain analysis, and device optimization. The candidate will be required to work closely with the EHS team to follow safe work procedures.
PhD in materials science & engineering, physics, chemistry, or related field.
