Job/Research Summary |
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation’s primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The Transmission and Grid Integration Group seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to assist the group by participating in a variety of electricity technology, market, and policy analyses with an emphasis on the application of electric system integration and power plant dispatch models, databases, and analytic tools. The assignment is for one year with possible renewal for up to three years. |
Job Duties |
With guidance from management and senior staff, assist in the use of electric power system models to understand implications of increased contributions from renewable energy. Projects will focus on the use of production cost, unit commitment and dispatch, and load flow models to evaluate technology impacts, systems engineering requirements, markets, or policies of interest. |
Required Education and Experience |
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years. |
Additional Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes |
Demonstrated strong computer skills including languages relevant to model development, optimization, and spreadsheet analysis, such as R, GAMS, Matlab, AMPL, C++ and Java. Good communication and interpersonal skills. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Some experience in power system modeling, renewable energy and efficiency technologies and related modeling and analysis. Experience with commercial production cost or power-flow models such as PROMOD, GridView, PLEXOS or PowerWorld. Established base of contacts with individuals and institutions relevant to power system modeling and analysis. Knowledge or experience with RTOs or ISOs a plus. Experience working with the federal government. |
