Zoological Society of London

Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Starting salary: £31,726-£37,456

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research assistant, available from 1 November 2014. This is a one-year fixed-term appointment.

The position, which is funded by Defra, offers an opportunity for an outstanding researcher to investigate the epidemiological consequences of contact between cattle and badgers (www.zsl.org/badgers). The position is associated with a large-scale field project in Cornwall and offers opportunities for some involvement with fieldwork.

The position involves collaboration between the Institute of Zoology (www.zsl.org/science/research) and the MRC Centre for Outbreak Analysis and Modelling at Imperial College London (http://www1.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/about/institutes/outbreaks). A base in Cornwall would be preferred but a base in London would be a possibility.

Candidates for this position are expected to have a PhD in a relevant discipline, direct experience of ecological fieldwork, a clean driving licence, and the excellent communication skills needed to interface with stakeholders in a controversial topic. Experience with the analysis of animal movement data, and team leadership, would be a substantial advantage.

Applications should include a covering letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and full contact details of three referees (including the candidate's Ph.D. supervisor). For informal enquiries, contact Prof Rosie Woodroffe (rosie.woodroffe@ioz.ac.uk).

Applications should be sent by e-mail to hr@zsl.org

 Closing date: 1 September 2014
