Description

CSIRO are seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Building Energy Modelling, to contribute to the development of numerical models that can predict the whole of life-cycle energy performance of individual buildings (residential and commercial) as well as for an entire building stock across different regions. The successful applicant will play a key role in developing scientifically validated and stakeholder accepted tools for performance assessment of buildings, infrastructure and urban regions against a growing set of eco-efficiency and climate-adaptive performance criteria.

The position will be aligned with CSIRO’s Urban Systems Program in Melbourne, which hosts Australia's leading research group in physics-based modelling of building thermal and energy performance, and contributes to a range of energy- and climate-related research projects in CSIRO’s Energy Transformed Flagship and the Climate Adaptation Flagship. The commercial software tool, AccuRate, is developed and maintained by CSIRO, and is one of the leading software packages in building energy modelling

Specifically you will:

  • Review and summarise the technical literature relevant to CSIRO’s research in building energy modelling
  • Work with a modelling team to develop, validate and calibrate modelling tools
  • Assisting research team in extensions to functionality of the AccuRate software and CSIRO building stock model(s)
  • Interacting with other scientists and external stakeholders involved in building energy modelling, and other urban modelling disciplines, to determine research requirements and opportunities

Location:       Highett (Melbourne), Victoria
Salary:           $75K - $82K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure:         3 year term
Ref No:          VIC02832

To be successful you will have:

  • A PhD degree in a relevant discipline, such as Engineering, Physics, or Applied Mathematics related to thermal, ventilation and energy modelling for building design
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fluid dynamics and modelling of thermal energy flows in buildings
  • Demonstrated experience in developing or using building energy modelling tools
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to develop and evaluate new ideas to augment the research team, and to organise tasks to meet agreed outputs
