The Postdoc will work in a large team investigating the genomics of climate adaptability. The focus, in the first instance, will be on 20 Drosophila species, known to differ in their response to climate stresses. The sequencing budget allows for whole genome sequencing, transcriptomic analyses of the stress responses and shallow pass re-sequencing of various stressed population samples. Some extension to other species is possible. This Postdoc will have primary responsibility for much of the bioinformatic analyses, perhaps particularly focussing on the population genomics, but may also take a role in some of the empirical work as well.

Specifically you will:

  • Undertake research on the population and comparative genomics and transcriptomics of climate stress responses in Drosophila and certain other species.
  • Participate in the identification of further opportunities arising from research and initiate new lines of research.
  • Under broad supervision, assist in the planning and preparation of research proposals and carry out investigations requiring originality, creativity and innovation.
  • Present results in a meaningful format and write scientific papers for publication.

Location:   Canberra, ACT

Salary:       $73K - $80K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure:      3 year term

Ref No:      ACT01949

To be successful you will have:

  • A PhD in a relevant field with not more than 3 years postdoctoral working experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in genome bioinformatics/biostatistics or quantitative population/evolutionary genetics.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and pursue novel research approaches.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals and present research at national/international conferences.
