LOCATION: Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, Millbrook, NY

DURATION: Full-time position.  One year position with the option to continue for a second year.   Preferred start date is ASAP, with February 1, 2012 as the latest acceptable start date.

DUTIES: Design and carry out a research program exploring outcomes of the professional development activities in the Environmental Science Literacy (ESL) project. The research program may include case studies, classroom observations, clinical interviews, and written surveys. These will be implemented by the Postdoctoral Associate and others in the project at sites in New York, Baltimore, Michigan, Colorado, and California.  Help coordinate the professional development research and assessment efforts for the ESL project. Co-author papers for submission to the peer reviewed literature and give presentations at national meetings.

Provide support to other research components of the ESL project. Participate in  programmatic aspects of the ESL project, assisting with professional development activities for teachers and with production and testing of teaching materials for school use.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in education (preferred) or in a relevant field of natural or social science.  Research experience working with teachers in K-12 education, preferably at the middle or high school level.  Strong research, organizational, interpersonal and writing skills required.  Strong analytical skills a plus.
