The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy’s effort to secure an energy future that is both environmentally and economically sustainable. With locations in Golden, Boulder and Washington D.C., NREL is the primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy technologies in the United States. The NREL mission is to develop renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and practices, advance related science and engineering, and transfer knowledge and innovation to address the nation’s energy and environmental goals.
A postdoctoral position is available in NREL’s Chemical and Nanoscale Sciences Division to explore quantum dots as the active layer in solar cell architectures.
This position will focus on investigating the exploring new ways to incorporate semiconductor quantum dots into novel solar energy conversion structures. The candidate will support a larger group effort exploring the fundamental science of solar energy capture and transfer concepts using quantum dot systems. In particular, how surfaces, nanostructures, new quantum dot materials and heterostructures can be incorporated into solar energy conversion architectures. Study of the physics that governs energy flow, charge generation, recombination and transport in QD-layers and solar cell structures.
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of success in addressing fundamental science questions and devising solutions to challenging problems. Given the multidisciplinary nature of this assignment, candidates should be capable of self-direction and carrying out distinct projects in parallel. Attractive candidates for this position should have a strong background in solar cell construction, quantum dot photophysics, quantum dot surface chemistry and quantum dot chemistry. The candidate will be required to work closely with the EHS team to follow safe work procedures.
Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science & engineering, physics, or related field. Record of publications/presentations in areas relevant to NREL projects.
