PostDoc: Economist or equivalent (2 years, with an option for a possible extension, nsp01)

The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) offers research positions - subject to final authorization of project funds in the Research Domain II „Climate Impacts and Vulnerabilities. The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) was founded in 1992 and now has a staff of about 290 people working on a variety of aspects of climate and global change. The research domain is chaired by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Lucht and Prof. Dr. Helga Weisz and consists of three research fields (Biosphere 2100, North-South Project, Regional Impacts and Strategies).

The North-South Research Group (NSP) tries to improve its socio-economic expertise and seeks for an administrative assistant. The successful applicants will be involved in the research activities of the NSP Group  at PIK (www.pik-potsdam.de/nsp) which is led by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kropp. Under the rooftop of the NSP Group currently work 10 different disciplines and the group is in particular focusing on a reconciliation of climate protection targets, adaptation and development. Consequently all applicants should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team. The junior scientists have to enrol as a PhD candidate at one of the partner universities of PIK. The main working language is English. A close cooperation with the other projects running under the North-South Theme is mandatory. Due to PIK's nature experiences in the context of climate impact research are highly welcome. A demonstrated potential for excellence in research is requested from all applicants for this vacancy.

PostDoc: Economist or equivalent (2 years, with an option for a possible extension, nsp01)

We offer one PostDoc position in Economics or Environmental Economics. Salary is according to E13 TV-L.

Duties

The successful applicant will conduct research on reconciliation of sustainable development and climate issues like adaptation and mitigation. The focus will lie specifically on cities and rural areas and will include cost analyses of adaptation and mitigation measures, e.g. for infrastructure adjustments on national and sub-national levels.

Skills

This position requires expertise in advanced quantitative and/or qualitative methods, a background in environmental economics, mathematical economics, i.e. optimization concepts, or related fields. The position requires strong analytical and modeling skills (programming skills included). Understanding in organizational theory, and concepts from operations research will be an asset as is a strong interest for interdisciplinary research, and the ability to work independently. Experiences in project management and steering would be also an asset.
