Description

The Energy Axis of GAEL (Grenoble Applied Economics Laboratory) has been engaged in energy modeling and energy and climate policy research for more than 20 years. GAEL Energy (EDDEN) has been involved in several international and European research projects. Part of the research developed at GAEL Energy (EDDEN) benefits from the development and use of the POLES global energy model. This model is also used by the Joint Research Center of the European Commission.
The post-doctoral position aims at exploring through energy modeling and analytical methodologies low carbon scenarios and particularly sets of national decarbonization pathways in the context of national determined contributions that are at the core of the Paris Agreement.
The post-doctoral researcher will contribute to a new H2020 project entitled COP21 RIPPLES, coordinated by IDDRI (Sustainable Development and International Relations Institute – Institut du Développement Durable et des Relations Internationales) and will work on two main issues within the project.
The first issue is the understanding of structural transformation induced by nationally determined contributions and the additional transformations required by more ambitious mitigation objectives. The second issue relates to the modeling of materials (steel, cement…) supply and demand in low carbon scenarios in order to address international consistency and trade issues. These two issues will be explored using the POLES model.
The post-doctoral researcher will also contribute to the writing of WP deliverables.
