Description
IMPORTANT:  This Advertiser has requested that applicants MUST be National Residents / Valid Work Permit-holders.  Other applicants need not apply.

AgResearch supports the New Zealand economy by delivering innovative research solutions to the pastoral sector. We have a position for a highly motivated scientist with a recent Ph.D. in soil biogeochemistry or molecular microbiology.

Through this AGMARDT and Ballance Agri-Nutrients supported 2 year fellowship, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a talented and diverse group of people both within AgResearch and also externally. Working collaboratively, you will undertake research to characterise the extent of biological constraints associated with oxidation of elemental sulphur fertiliser in New Zealand soils. The result will be a decision support tool for New Zealand farming systems for use with elemental sulphur fertilisers.

To ensure that your research is of the highest standard you will publish results in recognised international journals, facilitating and presenting seminars to industry clients, relevant scientific conferences and, where appropriate, at industry workshops.

Knowledge/Background required
An established research background in biogeochemistry/molecular biology and in particular;

• Hands-on experience in molecular-based tools to understand the biogeochemistry of nutrient cycling (e.g. C, N, and/or S) in soils.
• Knowledge and research experience in detection and quantification of microbial genes involved in soil nutrient cycling
• The ability to work creatively and collaboratively to achieve results; to accept challenges and take on problems where solutions are poorly defined, and to apply knowledge to produce novel solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to write and publish scientific papers and reports, good verbal skills and an aptitude for presenting research findings to diverse audiences including the farming community and commercial clients.
The Microbial Discovery and Functionality team is based at our Lincoln campus, situated in pleasant rural surroundings with easy access to Christchurch. The surrounding area offers many outdoor recreational opportunities. The team has wide experience in all aspects of soil biology, including nutrient cycling, plant and pest diseases, biological control, and microbial ecology. The facilities include molecular biology laboratories and soil and wet chemistry labs.

Applicants must be a New Zealand resident or be eligible to work in New Zealand for the term of the agreement.

This is a readvertised position so if you have already applied previously please do not apply again.
