CMCC (Centro Euro-Mediterraneo per i Cambiamenti Climatici) is a Consortium consisting of different Italian public and private research  institutions dedicated to climate-related research.

In the CMCC the Division SERC (Climate Services Division), located in Bologna (Italy), is responsible for the production of climate predictions and climate change projections and for the communication of the results and information obtained to a broad range of users: decision makers and stakeholders from industry, private companies, political bodies and public administration and, finally, scientists and researchers from other disciplines. In addition, the SERC Division coordinates research on adaptation policies to climate change and provides technical and scientific support to the institutions for multilateral negotiation processes in the field of climate change (EU, IPCC, UNFCCC).

This Division is now seeking one or more people at post-doc or junior or senior level to work in climate science applications The positions will cover broad range of research and applications areas including:

  • Assessment of climate change scenarios (both at global and regional level) and detection of long term changes of various weather events (extreme events, tropical cyclones, etc) based on past observations and model simulations, understanding of uncertainty in the climate change projections.
  • Analysis of climate information (historic records, current observations, predictions at various time scales) and translate it into quantitative information about impacts in various sectors (e.g., agriculture, water resources, resources, environmental management, etc).
  • Application of climate information in climate sensitive sectors (agriculture, water, economics, etc) to minimize climate-related risk.
  • Networking with decision makers and stakeholders, concerning climate service at national and international level and in other international initiatives where CMCC participates such as Joint Programming Initiative – Climate (JPI-CLIMATE).

The positions (post-doc, junior researcher or senior researcher) will be determined based on expertise and work experience. The first term of position is up to 2 years with possible renewal.

The successful applicants will have a science related university degree or higher level degree such as MSc. or Ph.D. and proficiency in written and spoken English.
