Transport Economist/Modeller
Project Description
The ECCET unit (Economics of Climate Change, Energy and Transport Unit) has a
vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher to work on the project related to
transport economics. This unit is currently carrying out impact assessment
analyses for transport policy measures at EU level.
The successful candidate will define research questions and develop research
methodologies, collect transport data and statistics, develop and apply transport
models and prepare reports for policy makers. The research and policy support
activities cover all transport modes and address economic, environmental and
societal issues. The range of policies analysed includes technological,
organisational, legislative and financial measures. The job requires frequent
communication with policy makers and external collaborators, both in written and
verbal form.
He/she should have experience in research or policy support experience in
transport modes and a good understanding of the policy making process and the
issues that influence it at EU level. Experience in government or industry will be
appreciated. Suitable candidates should have an educational background in
engineering, economics, environment, geography or relevant subjects. Experience
with policy impact assessment and evaluation methodologies, including CBA and
MCA is necessary.
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or having fulfilled all the obligations to
obtain a PhD (certified by the university) or having a minimum of 5 years
research experience after the first university degree giving access to doctoral
studies (which may include periods of training such as a masters degree) in a field
relevant to the JRC's scientific activities.
A very good level of written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of at
least one other EU language is compulsory.
