General position overview:
The Center for Biological Diversity seeks a  highly motivated, dynamic, detail-oriented organizer to help assist our groundbreaking Population and Sustainability Program and effectively organize supporters and allies around these critical issues. The Population and Sustainability Organizer will be supervised by the Population and Sustainability Director. The Organizer will work closely with other organizing, communications, conservation and development staff. The Organizer is tasked with creatively and effectively raising awareness about the connection between rampant human population growth, overconsumption and consumer choices, and species extinction through resource depletion and environmental degradation. The Organizer must have excellent communication and organizational skills; strong people skills; experience organizing individuals online and offline to take action; data management and tracking experience; knowledge of population, overconsumption, sustainability and environmental issues and politics; and an ability to think strategically, juggle many tasks, and manage short- and long-term projects. Passion for and experience with endangered species issues is desired.

Main duties:
- Driving Program’s organizing effort to rally other environmental groups and individuals around population, overconsumption and sustainability issues; invigorating deep and lasting interest among like-minded organizations to build grassroots support and effect change.
- Developing and implementing new initiatives to raise public awareness about population, overconsumption and sustainability and to drive online and offline actions. (For example, researching, highlighting and publicizing  the impacts of meat consumption on species and the planet.)
- Cultivating, managing and inspiring a growing group of tens of thousands of population and sustainability activists, including drafting and sending out communications as well as tracking activist information and action history.
- Assisting in strategic planning, outreach and action-calendar management, and execution of Program campaigns.
- Creating and implementing short- and long-range education, outreach and action campaigns that connect population and overconsumption with endangered species impacts.
- Running the Endangered Species Condoms distribution program, including nationally distributing condoms, producing related materials, event planning, and cultivating and coordinating thousands of volunteer distributors.
- Assisting in the writing and production of the Center’s monthly online population newsletter Pop X.
- Regular writing and posting to Program’s social media accounts and integrating population and sustainability materials with other Center communications.
- Generating press releases, research, reports, Web materials and op-eds, as well as working with the media in general.

 Essential qualities, qualifications and skills:
- Three to five years’ organizing experience—national-level organizing preferred.
- Minimum associate or bachelor degree.
- Two to four years’ work related to population, overconsumption, sustainability, environmental activism, organizing and/or communications.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
- Proven experience motivating and organizing individuals and groups to advocate and take action.
-Experience working with the media, giving interviews and writing press releases.
- Proven management experience with projects, volunteers and activists.
- A solid grasp of issues related to population, overconsumption, sustainable living, diet choices, endangered species and environmental effects, and knowledge of the current political and cultural context related to these issues.
- Strong organization, planning and time-management skills.
- A demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a team.
- An ability to track and successfully deliver quality products or information regarding multiple tasks while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, busy environment.
- Nonprofit experience preferred.

Salary is commensurate with experience and comparable to that of other nonprofits. The Center offers an excellent benefits package, including employer-paid medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and a 403(b) retirement savings plan with employer match.
