Description
Working as part of a dedicated and high performing team, you will be responsible for the effective regulation of installations that operate under the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2010. You'll audit industrial sites(e.g. Chemicals, power generation, incineration and food and drink sites) ensuring they comply with permitted arrangements, making complex assessments of their ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources.

You'll respond to and investigate pollution incidents from your sites making sure suitable preventative and protective action is implemented. We'll give you the autonomy you need to manage your own work plans, but you'll need to be quick to react to changing priorities and situations. We will also look to you to use your influencing and negotiating skills to promote and champion best practice to senior managers and key stakeholders within industry, local communities and other interested groups.

The team
 
The post is based either in Tyneside House , Newcastle or Teesdale House in Darlington as part of the Installations(formerly PPC) Compliance team that regulates a broad range of industrial sectors across the Northumberland, Durham and Tees Area.

Experience/skills required
 
• Methodical and pragmatic and solutions-focused, you'll have relevant experience of process industry or a proven track record of successful regulation of the industrial sectors above.
• Alongside a degree(or equivalent qualification) in science, environment studies or engineering, you'll be able to draw on considerable operational experience.
• As well as being up to speed with environmental legislation and regulations, you must have practical experience of auditing Environmental Management Systems and an understanding of how they can improve a company's environmental performance.
• It's also vital that you are a clear, credible communicator, comfortable dealing with people from different organisations and backgrounds.

This is a full time permanent post. A full UK driving licence will be required as would flexibility to travel.
