Job DescriptionSEI seeks a mid- to senior-level researcher to build upon and expand SEI’s climate change mitigation research on the role of cities in global GHG abatement as well as in other areas, such as fossil fuel supply and economics and carbon markets. This position will be based in the Seattle office, which focuses on climate policy with a particular interest in the roles of cities, land use, and fossil fuel supply in mitigating global GHG emissions. SEI’s Seattle staff work closely with government agencies, policy-makers, and research organizations nationally and internationally, as well as in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. They also regularly collaborate with SEI colleagues worldwide. The Policy Researcher will join SEI’s Seattle team and conduct and manage research activities that assess and advance the contribution of urban policy towards climate change mitigation. Additional areas of focus will depend in part on the successful applicant’s particular strengths, but may also include the economics of fossil fuel extraction and processing, life-cycle assessment, emissions accounting frameworks, and carbon markets. Specific responsibilities include:

At a minimum, applicants should possess strong leadership, management, organizational, interpersonal, and networking abilities. She/he should have both a strong interdisciplinary inclination in research efforts and a strong commitment to protecting the natural environment and improving human well-being.
