Description

The Policy Intern’s role is to support the development of The Registry’s GHG accounting policy. The primary responsibilities are outlined below.

The Registry offers a hands-on, fast-paced work environment. This position provides the opportunity to contribute to a team playing a leading role in managing North America’s impact on climate change.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop a White Paper on a Current GHG Accounting Issue

  • Conduct independent research
  • Draft paper with direction from Registry staff
  • Possible issues include:
    • GHG reporting trends in the aviation sector
    • Understanding the GHG impacts of green power
    • Incentivizing reporting in the corporate value chain (scope 3)
    • The relationship between financial and GHG accounting

Support Development of Regional-level GHG Accounting Guidance

  • Research background issues
  • Provide support and follow-up for workgroup meetings

Support Launch of GHG Regulation Clearinghouse Website

  • Research and summarize state and U.S. GHG reporting regulations, format content using basic editing tools
  • Participate in beta test of tool and analyze feedback from other testers

Qualifications

  • Current graduate or undergraduate student (environmental degree preferred)
  • Basic understanding of and interest in working on climate change and GHG accounting issues
  • The ability to communicate technical information simply and clearly
  • Demonstrated exceptional research and writing skills

Compensation

Internships are unpaid, school credit may be available. A commitment of 15-20 hours per week is expected. A subsidy of up to $130/month towards commuting costs is available. Interns are expected to work primarily at The Registry’s offices in Downtown Los Angeles.
