The Policy Advisor assists in the development, coordination and implementation of the Jamaica Program strategy to further the work of the Conservancy and its conservation partners through direct interaction with the Jamaica and other Caribbean Governments in the region, and multi- and bilateral agencies that provide conservation opportunities and/or impact the nations’ Conservation programs. S/he assists in the identification of conservation policy and funding opportunities, and assists to implement strategies to influence policy and public funding for conservation at the national and/or global levels. The Policy Advisor liaises with his/her counterparts in the Conservancy’s Caribbean Program and International Government Relations department to participate in the network of External Affairs staff and provide and extract useful lessons and to coordinate on joint policy approaches. The Policy Advisor also provides input for proposal writing, and donor cultivation as needed. The Policy Advisor may serve as a point of contact to inform Conservancy partners and elected and appointed officials of Conservancy policy and positions in the realm of government relations. S/he develops strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and industry to advance TNC’s conservation agenda. S/he may organize grass roots efforts to mobilize constituents on TNC legislative priorities.
