Description

GRID-Arendal is seeking an energetic Research Assistant to support and assist with the development and implementation of Polar & Cryosphere Division’s activities and projects. The candidate will work with a highly motivated international team. The position reports to the Head of Polar Division and is based at GRID-Arendal headquarters in Arendal, Norway.

Main activities

  • Conducting background research (e.g., literature searches), summarizing and synthesizing information, and preparing clear, well written content for reports, the web, etc.;
  • Editing and formatting reports, articles and letters and preparing references and bibliographies;
  • Developing and presenting creative concepts for graphic, print and web formats;
  • Assisting with development and management of new projects, strategies and fund raising;
  • Providing research and communications support to broad range of Polar and Cryosphere projects;
  • Web site and database development;
  • Organizing and running meetings and preparing minutes and proceedings.

Professional Qualifications

  • Academic background (minimum bachelor) in environmental science or related field preferably relating to polar issues;
  • Minimum one year of related work experience;
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills;
  • Good general computer skills;
  • Must be capable of working both independently and in coordination with others;
  • Able to carry out multiple tasks, at times under pressing deadlines but is also methodical and able to pay attention to detail.

Personal Qualifications

  • Interest in environmental issues;
  • Well-organized, efficient, thorough, flexible, and adaptable;
  • Creative and willing to take initiative;
  • Ability to work in an international context and with people of other cultures.

Compensation:

GRID-Arendal’s salary system is linked to the Norwegian Government salary system. It is based on education and experience. Salaries are subject to Norwegian tax regulations. Insurance and personal benefits are provided in addition to salary. International staff receives additional benefits.
