Description

Promote Good Nutrition and Ethical Research While Learning Valuable Skills as a PCRM Clinical Research Intern

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit organization working toward effective medical practice, research, and health promotion. For the last 26 years, PCRM has led the way for reforms of federal nutrition policies, and our clinical research programs are breaking new ground in diabetes, cancer, and other serious medical conditions. We have fought for an emphasis on prevention, higher ethical standards in research, and scientific advances in basic research and effective drug development. We have worked with physicians, federal regulators, politicians, researchers, educators, students, and concerned citizens. And we have so much more work to do.

CLINICAL RESEARCH INTERNSHIP

NOTE: Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis for fall and spring semesters.

PCRM is presently able to host an individual seeking to learn and practice skills in clinical research. The intern will assist with the recruitment, implementation and assessment of several clinical studies, and assist with writing and publication of scientific papers. The intern would also play a role in clinical research outreach by identifying conferences to present PCRM research, helping to create presentations and educational materials, and updating webpage content. PCRM’s Clinical Research Intern will work alongside our Chief Medical Officer and Director of Clinical Research, Ulka Agarwal, M.D., and assist in promoting the mission, programs, and services of PCRM’s clinical research department.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should be pursuing a field of study relating to clinical research. (PCRM will assist interns in obtaining course credit as applicable.)
  • Applicants should have a strong interest in learning about vegetarian/vegan nutrition and preventive medicine.

Terms: PCRM is open to internships of various durations, schedules, and start dates (see note above). PCRM is located in the metro-accessible Friendship Heights neighborhood in Washington, D.C. This unpaid volunteer internship is not available as employment. Free housing accommodations may be available if needed.

How to apply: Click here to complete our online internship application.

PCRM interns not only get to work on a daily basis with our experienced team of doctors, nutritionists, clinical researchers, and nonprofit professionals, but may have the opportunity to participate in staff education sessions, journal article discussions, Capitol Hill briefings, fundraisers, and other PCRM events. All interns will receive a full-day orientation at the start of their internship and ongoing support from their staff mentor.
