Operation New World self help educational programmes for young unemployed (20-25) aim to increase employability skills so that participants get off 'Benefits' and find worthwhile jobs.

The success rate is very high: since 1992, nearly two thousand young have completed the course with 90% finding jobs or re-training shortly afterwards.

 

What Does Operation New World Do?

Operation New World is an educational Charity established in 1992 in order to provide self-help programmes for unemployed young people.

Anne Leonard, Chairman of the organisation says: "I wanted to help young people who could not get jobs and were getting depressed on the benefits system."

It is controlled by a Council of Management.

Since 1992, nearly two thousand young people have taken part of whom 90% found jobs or took up full time education shortly afterwards.

Courses include:
An introductory training course in teamwork, map reading and other outdoor skills, normally with a Territorial Army regiment or at an outdoor training centre, Southampton.

A weekend introduction and training course in first aid, navigation and other outdoor skills, normally with a Territorial Army regiment or at an Outdoor Training Centre.

One or two weeks field trip in an isolated location--usually an island off the coast of Europe--learning habitat identification and employability skills. The projects are led by qualified teaching staff and local environmental experts.
