Philippines Project Manager

 

ZSL have been working in the field of freshwater eel (family Anguillidae) conservation for nearly ten years both in the UK and internationally. This position relates to the new three year Darwin Initiative-funded project “Eels as a Flagship Species for Freshwater Conservation in the Philippines”. This project will be based along the northern coast of the island of Luzon, Philippines - with the project office being located in Aparri – and examine ecological and socio-economic factors relating to the eels species found in the Cagayan River.

 

The project manager will be the senior in-country staff member related to the project. They will be based in Aparri, Luzon, but there will be travel within the Philippines, and if appropriate and funds allow, internationally. The position will be line-managed by the ZSL Philippines country manager, based in Iloilo, with the project being overseen from the UK by ZSL’s Marine and Freshwater Programme Manager.

The project manager will be in charge of a small team of four staff members which will include biologists and community organisers.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to further their experience of conservation working with an international NGO.Successful candidates must have:

  • A university background in biology/conservation sciences (or equivalent) to MSc or PhD level
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Experience of project management and associated skills e.g. finance, staff, etc.
  • Good understanding of community-based conservation initiatives
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Full driving licence
