Description

“Population-Health-Environment” (PHE) is a holistic approach to sustainable development, integrating community health promotion and services with natural resource management and biodiversity conservation. Blue Ventures has been implementing an award-winning PHE programme in Madagascar since 2007, encompassing community health services and local marine resource management initiatives.

In 2014 we helped to establish the Madagascar PHE Network with the aim of facilitating the development of cross-sector PHE partnerships between health and environmental organisations working across the country, and building their capacity to implement PHE initiatives. In 2016 we started to support uptake of this holistic PHE approach by partners in Mozambique, and we have since identified additional territories in which we could work to support the development of PHE initiatives and networks: Tanzania, Kenya, the Comoros, Indonesia and Timor-Leste.

We are now recruiting two dynamic, flexible and initiative-taking PHE Support Officers to facilitate uptake of PHE by pre-identified partners in east Africa and southeast Asia, and to scope potential new partners and support opportunities in both of these regions. The roles will entail identifying suitable partners and replication sites, building relationships with promising partners, supporting the facilitation of community consultations and the development of effective cross-sector PHE partnerships between health and environmental organisations, and delivering technical assistance to partners particularly with regards to integrated community outreach and monitoring.

The successful candidates will complete a period of orientation at Blue Ventures’ PHE programme sites along the west coast of Madagascar and with our PHE partnerships team in the capital city of Antananarivo, and will also receive an orientation from our UK-based staff remotely. They will thereafter be based in Tanzania or Sulawesi, with frequent travel throughout their respective regions. These positions will involve working as part of Blue Ventures’ international and interdisciplinary team, with excellent opportunities for professional development and growth.
