Perthshire Reserves Ranger - Seasonal

Loch of the Lowes, Nr Dunkeld

Duration: March – September

35 hours per week

This post is based at the popular Loch of the Lowes wildlife reserve, near Dunkeld.  In addition to working at the Loch of the Lowes, the post holder will assist in the management of five other Trust reserves in Perthshire, and liaise with local communities and the local Perthshire members’ group. The main responsibilities are to:

  • Organise and maintain the osprey security watch.
  • Manage and support volunteers.
  • Undertake species and habitat monitoring on reserves.
  • Co-ordinate and implement practical conservation tasks on reserves.
  • Actively recruit members to the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

The post holder should have excellent verbal and written communication skills (including report writing and public speaking).  He/she will be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.  

Falls of Clyde Ranger - Seasonal

Falls of Clyde, New Lanark

Duration:  March – September

35 hours per week

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and skilled individual to work alongside the Falls of Clyde team at the popular Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve based at New Lanark World Heritage Site.  Main duties will include running the Peregrine Watch site (March-July), reserve  patrols, delivering public events and practical conservation tasks.

The successful candidate will:

  • Staff Operation Peregrine (our peregrine watch site) which may require some unsociable hours onsite from Mar-July.
  • Patrol the wildlife reserve and promote site safety to visitors.
  • Lead guided walks and public events – primarily evening badger watches.
  • Help run environmental education activities for school groups and the public on the reserve and in the wider community.
  • Undertake a wide range of practical conservation tasks and biological recording.
  • Work with and support our team of volunteers.
  • Actively recruit members to the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

Applicants should be educated to HNC level in Countryside Management (or similar) with proven experience in delivering public events and wildlife site management. Commitment to nature conservation, good communication skills, enthusiasm and self-motivation are essential.  The position will require regular weekend, evenings and public holiday working.  A full driving licence is essential.

Salary band: £13,900 - £15,000 pa depending on experience and responsibilities afforded each post.
