Background The Azuero Earth Project [www.azueroearthproject.org] is a United States tax-exempt organization (501-C-3) operating in Panama as the Proyecto Ecológico Azuero. The organization is dedicated to local education, reforestation and sustainable land stewardship on the Azuero Peninsula, on the Pacific Coast of Panama, about 100km west of Panama City. “The mission of the Azuero Earth Project is to preserve the ecosystem of the Azuero Peninsula, protect biodiversity, and promote healthy communities by helping people to make informed decisions, take sustainable actions, and share knowledge.” The Azuero Earth Project facilitates connections among scientists, educators, students, planners and designers and local communities to explore advanced concepts for appropriate land use with a focus on developing simple, sustainable models for architecture, agriculture and development. In the next 1-2 years, the team will be pursuing three program tracks: ? A GIS mapping project to assess forest remnants and gaps and prioritize habitat conservation actions in a unique ecosystem threatened by development and overuse; ? A Landowners Advice Program to raise awareness and provide local landowners with sustainable land use options; ? Building the Azuero Resource Center, a library and website to collect and distribute ecological information and connect to others throughout the world who are interested in the region, in Panama, and in sustainable land management; Position Profile The Azuero Earth Project seeks a Pedasi Program Assistant. The Pedasi Program Assistant will be someone interested in working with a small high-energy team dedicated to researching and communicating ecological and environmental issues in an international setting. S/he will work with the Program Director to produce environmental programming out of our office in Pedasi. Primary Responsibilities Reporting to the Program Director, the Pedasi Program Assistant will: ? Assist in supervising and maintaining the Azuero Resource Center website and physical library in Pedasi ? Assist in organizing the Azuero Earth Project visiting researcher schedule and use of facilities ? Assist in organizing the Guest Experts activity series at our Resource Center in Pedasi ? Help build and participate in a coalition of organizations to bring sustainability projects to the region ? Help to implement community outreach programs (film night, etc) in collaboration with community actors and volunteers ? Help to manage Azuero Earth Project office and grounds (Renter’s duties) in collaboration with the property managers of Posoqueria, Inc. (Owner’s duties) in an environmentally-sustainable fashion ? Pursue and implement strategies for making AEP’s daily functioning a model of sustainability for the local community ? Assist the Program Manager in pursuing local publicity options and supply information for grant reporting ? Represent the Azuero Earth Project to the local community and collaborate with community partners ? Tap into the pulse of community awareness and convey this sense to other organization members Qualifications We seek an individual with the following qualifications: ? A passionate and demonstrated personal and professional commitment to the environment ? Undergraduate degree in a related field ? Office work experience ? Knowledge of the following programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat ? Experience posting events on facebook, websites (Wordpress experience preferred), and via email (please provide samples of past work in event advertising) ? Ability to take initiative, lead a team, problem-solve, be technologically creative, and assume responsibility ? Fluent Spanish; working knowledge of English ? Ability to adapt to a diverse work environment, willingness to work and live with a team ? Patience and persistence ? High attention to detail ? Excellent writing skills (please provide samples of past written work in Spanish and English) ?
